Scope of Electrical Engineering - Profession for Females

Electrical Engineering, Scope of Electrical Engineering in Pakistan, Is electrical engineering useful for girls?, What is the scope of electrical engineering for girls?

What is the scope of Electrical Engineering for girls?

It is sad that still we are facing gender discrimination in choice of fields. In order to progress at faster rate for a country it is necessary that females of the country take active part. And this will only be possible when they choose fields of their interests instead of considering choices of their friends and family or society biased advices.

Each and every person has the right to dream according to his interests. This article is to guide you completely about electrical engineering. Telling you what your prior interests should be and what will be the job perspectives regarding females. Let’s start the discussion:

“So, for this you have to choose field of your interest because there is no field that is property of males. Fields require passionate engineers and passion does not depends on gender”

Electrical engineering is a professional engineering discipline that generally deals with the study and application of electricity, electronics, and electromagnetism. Electrical engineering is like a mother of many engineering. Many fields are derived from this field. So, by choosing electrical engineering you will have to learn about all those fields in it and also you will be able to work in these fields. What matters really is your interest. We can say that on major scale electrical engineering is study of power, electronics, computer and telecommunication systems.

What they study:
You will have to study math’s subjects, electronics, computing, designing subjects and power related. Being able to build robots to communication devices and huge turbines like machineries requires your interest.
Electrical engineering is also the study of signals, including multimedia signals, and the central discipline that deals with the robust control of systems, from micro machines to a large industrial plant and beyond.
Skills required:
The exciting field of electrical engineering requires you to understand complex designs and build them from scratch. To do excel in this discipline, you will need to be adept at problem solving and have strong analytical skills. The ability to look at the bigger picture, an interest in design, the ability to spot errors in even the most minute details are equally vital. If you are not one to shy away from a challenge, grasp mathematical concepts, and especially if you want to design products and solutions that can impact a very large number of people, you should be interested in electrical engineering.
Being a female student is not a big concern in electrical engineering. Yep it is true that some jobs are not for females like that in power plants. But if you have interest in a particular job you will make it best job. Electrical engineering offers you variety of jobs as liked by your interest.
Electrical engineering is widely regarded as one the most challenging disciplines to enter. This is because it addresses problems, physical phenomena and techniques that lie beyond the everyday experience of most people. But that’s the beauty of electrical engineering that have given rise to a large part of the technology that we now take for granted and that will continue to do so into the future.
“So, before deciding to choose a field it is necessary to get all the answers to a question why you are going to choose this field. Because if you neglect interest of subjects and your interest of field it will be of no use.”
What they do?
Electrical engineers conduct research, design, develop, test, and oversee the development of electronic systems and the manufacture of electrical and electronic equipment and devices. From the global positioning system that can continuously provide the location of a vehicle to giant electric power generators, electrical engineers are responsible for a wide range of technologies.

Electrical engineers design, develop, test, and supervise the manufacture of electrical equipment. Some of this equipment includes electric motors; machinery controls, lighting, and wiring in buildings; radar and navigation systems; communications systems; and power generation, control, and transmission devices used by electric utilities.

Job areas:
With electrical engineering you can easily jump into these fields but only when you have interest in electrical engineering. Don’t see that you are a female. Considering current scenario for female field choices according to interest are broad.
  • Telecommunications
  • Energy and Electric Power
  • Computers
  • Aerospace
  • Bioengineering
  • Manufacturing
  • Transportation and Automotive
  • Electrical Power generation and transmission companies
  • Electronics industry
  • Aerospace industry
  • Automotive industry
  • Computer Manufacturing Industry
  • Telecom Companies
  • Construction industry
  • Defense industry
  • Fast-moving consumer goods industry
  • Marine industry
  • Materials and metals industry
Day in the life of an electrical engineer:

Working as an engineer is much different than training to be an engineer. Unlike school, there is no typical day. Most engineers work in office buildings, laboratories, or industrial plants. Others may spend time outdoors at construction sites and oil and gas exploration and production sites, where they monitor or direct operations or solve onsite problems. Some engineers travel extensively to plants or worksites here and abroad.

Story:

Watch this video with complete focus and get some important motivations. She had vision that what she has to do and why she has to do. Just because she not only liked her job but loved it.

Being first electrical engineering working in GE (A big industry spreading its business in more than 190 countries) she has proved everyone wrong. Loving your work will be possible only when you give importance to your interests.

“Limits are only in mind, cross them and feel the real you”

Story and advice:

I always had an interest in physics and mathematics. My elder brother is also an electrical engineer. Through him I came to know about this field and it really captured my attention, especially computer programming. This is a quite diverse field. Anyone with an interest in electronics, power, telecommunication and computers can choose it. Although this field is quite tough yet interesting.

I really like my field because of the diversity of its applications. Yes, I do find it hard sometimes but I don't regret choosing it. I do believe though that there are many other interesting fields out there which I came to properly know about late (from friends who are studying them) and I believe proper career counselling is lacking in our education system. So, before deciding a field make yourself clear about it by proper search.

A lot of engineering girls nowadays are part of many companies. The job hours are 8-5 and many are managing them. In programming, there is no industrial work. You can make apps anywhere as long as you have your laptop and an open mind with you. Telecommunication is also a work behind desk job. In power and electronics, there are some jobs that require industrial work which can be tough for females but they also include designing of circuits etc. that can be done by females easily.

Final word
